MAHMOOD PADHANI
momineen the enumeration of a mans good attributes is to fail him when his good attributes transcends enumeration.
and our marhums attributes were not only good but that were many. Akhlaq, intellectuality, humbleness piety and the supreme love for the ahle-bayt stand out for me in particular.
he united the intellectulisms of a fathomless coquetry of a man of genius-and his genius (for me) was his love for the ahle-baytcontained in his lectures and that which he impressed upon the community in no uncertain terms- but with a tableaux of kindness.
if we just for one minute take away his love for the ahle-bayt and put it to the side - his akhlaq would have been enough to justify his inclusion in heaven.
when he talked he used to put his head down - and he would never leave your conversation - until you finished it and walked away. And if now put the akhlaq and the love of the ahle-bayt together - then wow what a combination.
Momineen if anyone of us can become or achieve even 5% of what our beloved marhum was - then truly we should consider ourselves to be very fortunate.
May ALLAH swt in his mercy elevate the status of his soul - so that he remains within the proximity of the dear 14 Masoomin.
May ALLAH swt in his infinite kindness - ease the pain and bereavement for his family and give them peace and contentment.
No zakir of imam Hussein a.s. has done so much - for so many - for such little gratification, and it is a testimony to his greatness that we remember him for evermore.

For some of us in Tanzania we remember his immense contribution in the legal profession especially his extraordinary defense he provided to people accused of treason in the 80s. As we read the legal discourse in newspapers at the time and later in books we understood him to be one of the most talented lawyers at the time. We share the loss that his family and friends feel at this moment as for many of us we have lost an incredible figure of whose contribution in the course of justice will remain intact for many generations to come. His name is eternally curved in the history of Tanzania. RIP

A great loss to the community. An example we need to follow in akhlaq, humblness and service to the aimmah and community. A person who proved that one can achieve both religous and worldly education. May Allah (swt) elevate his status. Ameen.

A brilliant star in the firmament of Khoja galaxy has gone, but the light will not cease to shine, especially those of us grew up
with him in Zanzibar, played cricket together, saw his memorable moot. Then there were the Dar es Salaam years. His scholarly, analytical lectures, collaboration in translation and editing of publications and witnessed the methodical, clock-work type of organization and conduct of Annual Hussein Day on the terrace of the Imambarghah of Dar es Salaam.
Antum lana salfun wa nahnu lakum tab'un.

We live in a remote area of Scotland and from the time before broadband internet, Marhum was in our living room every Thursday and through every Moharram. Our children grew up understanding our religion by listening to English Majlis of Marhum. The ORIGINAL English lecturer without whom our children would not have understood OUR way of life.

It is said one rises from the dead in the manner he died. Your final hours consisted of remembrance of az-Zahra, eating nadhr of az-Zahra, speech of az-Zahra, and living like az-Zahra.
How lucky you are Hajj Murtaza to be walking in the company of Hadrat Zahra!
Inna lilla wa inna elayhe raji'oon.
I just found out of your soul's travel just a few minutes ago and was deeply saddened. Surely the heavens on the other hand were joyous to receive such a magnificent and noble man.
Send my salaamz to the lady of light and tell her I crave for her company and for her to be pleased with me.

Salamun Alaykum.
The news of the death of Al Hajj Murtaza Bhai was received with great sorrow by myself and the members of the Toronto Jamaat. His demise is not the loss to the family only but to the entire Khoja community thoughout world.
His services to the community, as a caring and giving personality crossed the seas and oceans from Zanzibar to Europe to North America to India. His everlasting contributions in Zakiri and Publications will continue to serve the communities throughout the world for a very long time. For many, and particularly at Stanmore, Marhoom Murtaza Lakha will be missed for his humbleness and ever welcoming greetings to one and all.
The family legacy of serving the community in silence will Inshallah continue, and hopefully will inspire many of us to follow in the footsteps of Marhoom Murtaza Lakha.
On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat of Toronto and its membership, I convey my deepest condolences to the family on this tragic loss. TO ALLAH WE BELONG AND TO HIM IS OUR RETURN
The Shia Community in general and Khoja brothers in particular have suffered a great loss on the untimely demise of Al haj Murtazabhai Lakha.
AlHaj Murtazabhai Lakha was barrister by profession and always took up the cause of Tableegh with great enthusiasm. Through his Majalis in Gujarati he systematically delivered the history of our H. Imam Hussain (A.S.) and he also promoted Islam and his Majalis was well received by the members of our community.
He rendered Social and self less service to promote deeniyat and all his lectures were received by audience in spell bound manner and attention.
It is our duty to recite Sure Fateha in the name of the departed soul and pray that Allah Ta'ala accords him a suitable place in the vicinity of Ahima (A.S.)

Surely, it was a great sad day, when we heard the extremely sad news of Muallim Murtaza Lakha passing away. I could find people just passing the text message at that time, containing this sad piece of information.
He was surely a very Respectable Muallim, who had created a strong impression in the minds of people by delivering Innumerable lectures in India both in English and Gujarati. His lectures were too informational, and provide much inspirations from the life of Ahlulbayt.I can remember him hearing since my Childhood, as he used to visit my Hometown, Bhavnagar every year.
Moreover, How can we forget his Majalis on "Life after Death" delivered in Bandra Masjid, Mumbai and looked like he had mastered in that subject.
I was still knowing him less, until his childhood friend Muhsin Uncle Dharamsi, came in my life becoming my Mentor, Teacher, Guide and Motivator.
He often told about the great works Lakha Saheb had done till the date.
I can even still remember the sad face and tone of Muhsin Uncle Dharamsi, when he heard about this sad news.
Surely this is a loss, which cant be fulfilled

The Africa Federation received with great sorrow the sad news of the sudden demise of Barrister Alhajj Murtaza Ahmed Abdulrasul Lakha which occurred on 18th May 2010 (3rd Jamadil Al Thanni 1431 AH) in London, UK. Marhum was buried on 19th May 2010 (4th Jamadil Al Thanni 1431).
Marhum Alhajj Murtaza Lakha was born in Zanzibar, Tanzania and studied in the UK. He started his career as Lawyer at a very young age in Zanzibar, he later moved to mainland, Dar es Salaam, before migrating to England where he continued practicing as Barrister at Law. Marhum was internationally renowned speaker who travelled worldwide to deliver lectures on various Islamic subjects and reciting majlises in different languages during the holy months of Ramadhan, and during the Ashra-e-Muharram and Safar.
It is befitting to mention that Marhum was liked by one and all for his righteous, humble and pleasant nature.
The Africa Federation Secretariat on several occasions sought his advice on several matters, he was always willing and supportive to guide us, we are deeply saddened to lose such a personality who was always forthcoming to help whenever needed.
Marhum was a successful Barrister, a Renowned Speaker, a Scholar, a Social Worker and Zakir-e-Imam Hussein (a.s.). His demise is a big loss to the Shia community worldwide.
May Allah (swt) grant Marhum maghferat and a place among His chosen ones. Ameen.
We request you to remember Marhum in your

It is with profound sadness we learned of the loss of Alhaj Murtaza Lakha.
While I was growing up in Dar in the 80's I can attest that he was one of my most influential sources for understanding Islam. His style of teaching and understanding religion were based on irrefutable logic and facts of history.
Many of us from Dar will remember his signature Sunday night lectures on Imam Mehdi (AS). He later translated the famous book by Alhaj Mohamed Jaffer Devji from Gujrati to English. He taught us how to recognize the Imam of the time, and we remain grateful to him as our teacher.
As a teenager, I recall several discourses with him where he enlightened us so well on the philosophy of Ahlulbayt, martyrdom, and essential Shia concepts, in a style unmatched..
Marhum not only taught us by words, he was a true example in his deeds: his devotion and service to his aged father, his staunch support for azadari, his role as a volunteer for sabil and nyaz, his humility to all, his unflinching love for Alhlul bayt, his exceptional and kind demeanour to all, are some of his characteristics that were welcome for emulation. He promulgated "Hasanaat" in thoughts, words, and deeds.
The loss of such personality, a fine teacher, astute thinker, eclectic mentor, and a humble servant Allah and Ahlul bayt, is a irreparable loss to our community.
May Allah grant Alhaj Murtaza bhai eternal bliss, and give his family and the community the strength to bear this loss. We thank Allah for having him amongst us in whichever capacity we knew or related to him, and May Allah grant us the Tawfeeq to continually benefit from companionship with him.
We offer condolences to his family, and to the Imam of our Time.

Marhum Murtazabhai was a dear friend and like a brother to me. We have spent many hours discussing various communal and religious issues and have also shared platforms together many a times.
His smiling face, his humbleness and the sincerety with which he delivered the message of Ahlul Bayt a.s. has set an example which is hard to follow.
As it is said that Zakir-e-Husein a.s. never dies. Murtazabhai will Insha'allah always live in our memories through his lectures, teaching, preachings and the books he has written and translated.
May Allah swt rest his soul in peace and give us tawfiq to follow in his footsteps.
Let us remember him with Sura-e-Fateha.
